The current residential developer fee rate for Tahoe Truckee Unified School District for new residential construction and residential additions is $2.97 per square foot of living area.
There is a higher rate for new developments such as:
Cambridge Estates is $3.69, Big Springs at Northstar, Lahontan (capped at 3,000 SQ feet), Serene Estates, Painted Rock Estates, Estates @ Squaw Creek, Vista Pines, Tavern Inn Phase II, Squaw Creek Estates, and Northstar Unit 7-Summit@ Northstar (capped at 3,000 SQ/FT) under a Mutual Benefits Agreement. That rate is $3.52 per square foot for most of these areas. If you are building in one of these areas, please call (530) 582-2549 for the exact fee.
**Note: The mutual benefits agreement for these subdivisions are currently under review. The current fee for these developments has increased as of January 16, 2016.
The residential fee is assessed only when the new living area is over 500 square feet. If you are doing a residential addition that is less than 500 square feet, you are exempt from school fees but you must obtain a Certificate of Compliance from the school district to take to the building department. Garages, porches, decks, etc. are exempt.

The commercial rate is $0.54 per square foot of any new commercial or industrial space. The rate for commercial self-storage units is $0.01 per square foot of space.
Note: All Developer Fees must be paid in the form of a cashier's check or money order made out to Tahoe Truckee Unified School District, or exact cash. No personal or business checks will be accepted.

Credits or Exemptions: To receive credit or an exemption for fees you must provide appropriate documentation from the building department or assessor's office before a credit or exemption can be applied/issued.
The Certificate of Compliance can also be processed through the mail. Please include a cashier's check along with a copy of your building permit application to Facilities Department, Tahoe Truckee Unified School District,11603 Donner Pass Road, Truckee, CA 96161.
If the mail is used, a Certificate of Compliance will be mailed to you.
